…is here at The Buttery! Our Open House last weekend went beautifully. Alot of people, all the best music from “the boys” (Bing, Nat, Mel and Perry), and of course cookies courtesy of Curtis (Ruhsher). A big thank you to all who attended. And, if you weren’t able to make it…theres still Christmas left. Now for some pictures….

Our CHRISTMAS OPEN HOUSE is coming soon, November 3-5, 9:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.!!!

Fall Decorating Class

I know, I know…its been awhile. The last time I wrote we were in the middle of staging the home for sale up here in Minnnesota. Well, after 2 months of that we finally got it on the market. 2 1/2 weeks after that we sold! In the meantime we have had to find a home, go Chicago market, attend a 30th class reunion (I could make a smart comment here but I won’t), take one child down to college in Iowa, etc…well, I think you get the picture. We still have to move the other one to Arizona for college, pack and move by September 2…sometimes I would like to go to sleep and wake up in January…

…and Fall is coming. We have scheduled our Fall Decorating Class for September 13, Tuesday, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Cost is $17 and we are so excited about showing you what we have in! Plus, because I didn’t know what my schedule would be, Florence Gifford, the former owner and orginator of The Buttery has graciously agreed to host it this year! It would make a wonderful girl’s day out for all. Hope to see you there…

Not enough time in a day

If I haven’t been spotted around Elkader lately, I am writing to inform everyone I am still in Minnesota, still trying to “stage” my home, and it still isn’t on the market…yet. Funny thing about those big plans I had in presenting my home to the public in perfect condition. They fell through. Like in a Grand Canyon chasm through. Its like I always tell everyone else, its easier to help someone else decorate as long as it isn’t your own home. But I am getting there. (Note to ANYONE who may sell their home ANY TIME in the future: write down all paint colors, numbers and locations so that the total repainting of rooms will not be an option!)

I did sneak down for a day and Michelle and I dismantled, then put back together some new areas to be explored. We just acquired this great OLD primitive bench in front…wide planks (something you don’t see too often), simple curved back…it’s absolutely lovely. With a crusty old bench in front, some red, white and blue, and we are ready for the Memorial Day weekend…bring it on…

A moms wish

I believe, truly believe, that simplicity will always outweigh the elaborate. The no frills over the frills. The better over the bigger. How a card signed and embellished even more from a child can be more precious than the 2 dozen roses that may be expected.

Even if the child is 18.

This is Mother’s Day and I prefer to stay home. To pack a few more boxes that hold those books I love to look at for inspiration. The folder I started with notes and pictures from my children as they grew. The cards that were simply too funny for me to throw away (or too sweet, for that matter). I am going over many years of keepsakes that I was going to get to when it was time to go.

Well, it’s time.

So, today I will pack all the stuff that will hopefully fit in one trip in the van. And that by doing this it will help sell a home that holds the memories of 16 Mother’s Day Sunday’s. Though I can’t remember specifics of those days or which year we did what, I can remember what it felt like… each hug, each kiss, every whispered” I love you”.

That I won’t have to pack up at all.

Ok, 2 beautiful days in a row…I really don’t want to jinx it be mentioning it too much. Back here at my home in Minnesota, we had 28 degree windchill 3 days ago…need I say more? As I start to prepare my home to sell, I find my myself chanting ”no more Minnesota winters, no more Minnesota winters”…but one has to be realistic. Our realtor is very upfront about the housing market (or actually the total lack thereof) but I hope I can work a little staging magic (I have a little experience with this) so this house will stand out a little bit from the crowd. Wish me luck!

BTW…Mothers Day is also just a few days away…how about a trip to Elkader?

Our new glycerin soaps, made in Iowa, have been a huge hit…and they smell scrumptious! Made in small batches by Sharon (thefabricofsweetrepose.blogspot.com), I just have to lift the lids to the jars and….well, lets just say you will find a scent you definitely want to take home. Peach has probably been the most popular but I have to add I am absolutely addicted to Chanel…
